Fu Mei Cheung (Program Director)

Fu Mei oversees all on-site programmatic operations for SWAN’s After-School Program, currently serving approximately 630 children from Pre-K to 8th Grade. With the deep responsibility of ensuring consistent high-quality processes for New York City’s largest academic after-school program, Fumei has over 10 years of operations experience and expertise in program development, evaluation and management, and organizational planning. Fu Mei’s abilities are leveraged by her strong history and experience with Chinese American communities and organizations. Her experience also spans both non-profit and private sectors, including her experience as Youth Program Director for the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, and Operations Director for Boston-based Lucky River Transportation company where she managed a fleet of 21 buses and a staff of 72. Most recently, Fu Mei has worked with the Chinese American Planning Council, one of New York’s oldest and most impactful Chinese American Non-Profit Organizations. There she worked closely with immigrant family populations counseling them on parenting skills, bi-cultural issues, and other hardships facing new immigrants in New York City.

Fu Mei earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Boston University in Massachusetts, and is fluent in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.”

 

Dr. Ji-Jeng Fang (Educational Director)

Dr. Ji-Jeng Fang is responsible for overseeing SWAN’s teaching staff of over 70 teachers and teaching assistants. Dr. Fang is also responsible for curriculum development, staff training and daily teaching operations for SWAN students (Pre-K–8th Grade).  Dr. Ji-Jeng Fang has been with SWAN since 2004 and been managing its development since 2005.  Before then he was the Acting Chair of the Department of Early Childhood Care and Education at Kun Shan University of Technology in Taiwan.  Dr. Fang has over 21 years of professional experience in early childhood education.  He has received over 12 fellowships and awards for his research and teaching excellence, including the A. Harry Passow Fellowship award in 2004.  Dr. Fang earned his Education Doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Teachers College at Columbia University; his Ph.D. in Education at National Kaohsiung Normal University in Taiwan; his Masters in Elementary Education from National Pingtung Teachers College in Taiwan; and his Diploma in Education from Taiwan Provincial Pingtung Teachers’ College in Taiwan.  Dr. Fang is fluent in English and Mandarin.
